Everybody knows how tecnology and tecniques in construction have evolved and Salt Lake City Public Library is the example of that. In this moment it is one of the most important places in Salt Lake City. It is located in Utah, USA. It is an architecturally unique structure built in 2003. In this library you can find more of 500,000 books and other materials. The most fascinating thing about it, is it five story curve glass wall that gives the building a unique movement. But in this text you can read about the circualtion, as well as horizontal as vertical.
Basically the horizontal circulation is perceived at the moment you step on the square of the building, this square is the union of city with library. In the inside the horizontal circulation is marked by the five story lobby, which distributes the users’ traffic. The biggest corridors are the principal horizontal circulation. We can also find bridges that connect the different halls.
The vertical circulation is very important in every bulding because is the union between a story and others. The most representative of the vertical circulation is one staircase that is bounded with a ramp that arrives into a beautiful green area; this is in the exterior of the bulding. In the inside of the library, the vertical circulation is integrated by two elements: fisrt, the staircases; there are two systems of stairs, ones that go from the lobby to the last floor and others that come from the underground, the staircase are in spiral and lineal. And the second element are the crystal elevators, the system of elevators is almost in the centre of the big lobby hall.
To conclude, my opinion about this library is that it is a beautiful represention of architecture. Regarding circulation, I think that it is very clear that the circulation is marked since the moment you are in the square until the moment you are in the library itself, where you can find different circulation types which give you the pleasure to be in this remarkable library.
